Elam Endings. NFL Coach Aggressiveness. NFL Position Group BMIs. SF Giants Dynasty. MLB NFTs.
The fifth issue of Unexpected Points Added. This week's lineup consists of another dose of fun NFL thoughts, a (re?)introduction to Elam Endings, an upsetting update on how the SF Giants have rebuilt their team (for Tigers fans especially), and NFTs coming to the MLB.
If you have a favorite source I should review for the next issue, please share! I'll give you a shoutout and come up with a sports analytics acronym based on your name
This Week's Lineup
Elam Ending Win Probability Calculator
Some might be unfamiliar with the Elam Ending. It's a designed finish of a basketball game with a target score and ends on a made basket. Its adoption popularity is increasing, including with the NBA All-Star Game. This article presents a Win Probability Calculator based on a few game state parameters.
NFL Coach Historical Aggressiveness Index
It's June and football is on the horizon. This Aggressiveness Index is a fun read to see which coaches embrace the league momentum to go for it on 4th down more frequently. More recent coaches consume a majority of the top 10 (minimum one season). A few historical surprises are in there too!
A look at historical aggressiveness on fourth downs shows how much the league has changed since 2018.
NFL Snap-Weighted Size by Positions
Sticking with football, this one reviews position groups to find out which teams bigger or smaller players based on height, weight, and BMI. Short QBs scramble a lot, KC loves thick RBs, and LA enjoys skinny WRs. A perfect offseason read to whet appetites.
The San Francisco Giants Have Rebuilt Differently
After three World Series Championships in five years, the Giants have rebuilt the team in a surprising way. They've embraced veteran age while there has been a youth movement amongst other teams. As a result, 82% of their wins have been generated by players 30 and over, which is the fifth-highest since 1901.
Official MLB NFT Collectibles
Major League Baseball the latest to embrace NFTs, and recently partnered with a company to help bring them to market. All the digital collectibles will be licensed, with the ability to trade, purchase, and share. Topps introduced their first baseball card NFT earlier this year too.
