Welcome
Issue number 31. Delayed by two weeks. I decided to unplug and enjoy time with the fam and have a bit of a digital refresh. Well worth it!
Kicking off 2022, we start with a couple of good recaps of 2021. Followed up by a men's college basketball metric that highlights conference predictions, a look at finding value for English Soccer Clubs, and a first-hand story of one man's journey to a sports analytics job.
Cheers
This Week's Lineup
2021’s Best (And Worst) Teams
Elo rating and z-score based. The Lightning was the best of the champions, and the Dodgers the best team overall. Three Detroit teams made the bottom six worst.
The 21 Numbers of 2021
Twenty-one fun numbers for 2021. Two favorites of mine: 8,205 and 25. The former being games without a no-hitter in Padres history, and the latter being the total number of games South Dakota State played in the calendar year.
TRACR (Team Rating Adjusted for Conference and Roster) Metric
TRACR is a net efficiency metric that evaluates how well a team performs based on who they play. It rewards those who beat good teams and punishes those who lose to bad ones. This article includes conference play predictions.
Finding Value for English Clubs in the Top European Leagues
In a part 2 article, additional interesting info is presented based on exploring the landscape shaped by the UK Government Body Endorsement (GBE) regulations and looked at where value could be found within Bands 1-3.
